Hans Reiser has led police to his dead wife's body, in exchange for a lighter sentence.
After paying close attention to the case I had concluded that second degree murder was a likely conviction, and was a bit disturbed at the first degree verdict. I also thought that we'd never know the truth of the case.
So, now, Reiser has confessed his guilt, and resolved all the mysteries of the case, in exchange for a lighter, possibly more appropo', sentence. That's fine.
For perjury, lying on the stand for days on end, and wasting the public's money - and sympathy - he deserves to be drawn and quartered, spitted, then roasted alive, at the very least. Life imprisonment with a series of cellmates named bubba, or at least, an additional few dozen years in the slammer for perjury would be a savage irony.
I guess I respect the truth more than life, or death. Apparently our legal system thinks differently.

Trials, juries, judges, attorneys and prison are about society protecting itself from those who endanger the members thereof. Justice and fairness have nothing to do with it.
Having sat on a couple of juries, it amazes me how much some individuals telegraph their disgust with society and personal arrogance. Evidence is an extenuating contributor to the verdict but when individuals show themselves to be dangerous to society, then society will, by dint of numbers and self-made rules, lock them up.
Reiser behaved as if he were above those empowered to sit in judgement of him.
In so doing, he displayed his stupidity and the danger he posed to society.
And society put him away.
Good riddance.
