Bug Hunts and the Geeky Mindset
I've been on a bughunt myself lately, and I just had to laugh when David Rowe, deep in bringing up a Blackfin One, wrote:- When you are in the middle of a bug hunt it gets very frustrating. Two things happen. The first is that due to emotion the logic centres of your brain shut down and you don’t always think straight. I find I jump from one theory to another without thinking through each issue clearly. The second is that you don’t want to work on anything else. You get obsessed and can’t leave it alone. Voluntarily doing anything else is impossible. This means late nights, lack of exercise, fatigue and a further dip in intellect.
However I admit that despite all that I really enjoy a good bug hunt. The satisfaction when you come through it at the end is hard to describe. And you always end up learning lots along the way that comes in useful later. Call me a geek, call me a nerd, or call my wife and commiserate with her.
I didn't even know it was monday!! until I saw the svn commit message for the tranzport driver.
I guess I have to rewash the wash I washed on saturday.
But, for the record, the tranzport driver for ardour2 is working MUCH better now.
And I sure hope she's still taking my calls. ¶ 4:53 PM
