Another day, another conference
Somehow I got an invite to the ThinkTomorrow~Today: ThinkEquity Partners VC conference today.I knew I was in trouble when my conference badge didn't come with a rope to hang around my neck, but rather a clip to attach to my suit.
I'm the only guy here with a T-shirt on. (It's my neon yellow X-prize "Crew" T-shirt) I also have the cheapest laptop. Also, probably the only laptop running 64 bit Linux, capable of podcasting and recording the whole event, but what the hey.
There's more than two women here, unlike Astricon, where there was just Allison (the voice of asterisk) and one slightly bewildered Polycom rep.
The topics are things like "Where did the $ go? The rapidly shifting Ad dollar" - and speakers are from places like AOL, yahoo, reactrix, ingenio, etc.
I came originally because I wanted to get in a good golf game, but it looks like I'll be spending half the time working on a code drop.
The first sentence out of the speaker's mouth: "The consumer now has control". The phraseology went downhill from there, but it all added up to a dispiriting kettle of fish for all the VCs there to swallow.
Oh... this is going to be goooooood. I just hope they don't throw me out of here for making too many divots. ¶ 11:15 AM
