I had a chance to give a presentation to the Adelaide Linux Users Group last night. In order to do it, I'd disconnected from the internet, locked myself in a hotel room for 4 days with nothing but coffee and donuts to eat, and produced 9000+ words of good stuff. (4 consecutive 2000+ word days! yea! that's almost a living!)
I had to cut 5000 words in order to have a coherent presentation, and in the end to meet the time constraints on the talk, I had to improvise outrageously, and I doubt much of it was coherent. The only thing I remember about it this morning was the beer and pizza we had afterwards, and I'm afraid to look at the recording.
I think over the past year I've figured out a whole bunch of solutions to what's broken on the Net today... but it's going to take me a long time to coherently blog about them, and maybe 7k-10k more words. Guess I need to lock myself away again...
Update - so the first thing I read the next day on slashdot is about a group of researchers studying technology addiction, which was part of what my talk was about. I had even created a warning sticker for computer technologies, which looked like this:
