Tivo didn't make a deal with comcast, and the monopolists are trumpeting victory.
I gave one of the first TIVOs to my parents. They were scared of it. Now my dad can't watch football without it.
Tivo changed our perception of time.
The first UI for it was written in TCL, and the Linux code for it labored on a tiny PPC-405, with 16MB of memory. It was cool.
PowerTV labored for 3 years to create the same thing, and ended up with something inelegant (except for the fact that they managed to have it all run in a mmu'less environment) and slow.
What makes people think that the content monopolists can make a device that people want? Other monopolists?
